5 things you need for a successful children’s sleepover party

One of the joys and stresses for parents is the inevitable sleepovers that their children will have. These are exciting evenings where your children will strengthen their friendships, make memories, learn and grow.

As a parent hosting a sleepover – especially if it’s your first – you can feel very worried and stressed. Not only do you have to look after your own children, but other people’s children too.

1. Knowledge of any allergies or medical requirements

Sleepovers are meant t be fun, so the last thing that you want to deal with is some form of medical emergency. Make sure that you are aware of any allergies that your guests may have and also any medications they need, how often and the method for taking them. This is important to keep your guests happy, comfortable, and safe.

2. Sleeping essentials

If you’ve asked your guests to bring their own sleeping gear your job will be much easier. However, it pays to have extra blankets, pillows, and other bedding supplies on hand just in case.

Should you be providing the bedding, ensure that you have extras of everything – it’s better to be safe than sorry.

3. Food and snacks

Planning meals will be important, with the main ones being dinner and breakfast. Whilst it’s tempting to simply go for junk food, try instead to make that is yummy and healthy. This is better for everyone. The same thing goes for snacks. Don’t load up entirely on sweets and sugary drinks. Instead offer a range of different snacks that have some nutritional value.

Pro tip: Avoiding sugar – especially when it gets close to bedtime – will help the children to sleep easier.

4. Screen content

Movies and cartoons are a time-honoured tradition of sleepovers. To help make your life easier, offer a limited number of choices of free kid’s cartoons and movies and don’t leave the remote with them. This way they can’t go wandering through the streaming services.

5. Games and toys

Lastly, make sure to have plenty of games, toys, and other activities on hand so your kids and their friends can entertain themselves for hours. Having these ready means that you can relax knowing that you don’t have to watch and entertain the kids constantly.

Conclusion

Before your next sleepover, make sure that you tick off everything on this checklist!
